What is server colocation?
-
When the burden of operating and maintaining your companies’ servers becomes too big of a task for your staff, or when the need for continuous, uninterrupted service is critical, colocating your servers at a managed data center may be the best solution. Oso Grande’s managed data center, Oso Secure, offers redundant power, redundant and robust Internet connectivity, environmental control, monitoring, tape rotation, firewall services, and unparalleled security. Oso Secure caters to both large and small businesses. Whether your company needs a single rack unit of space or a locked cabinet all to itself, Oso Secure can provide the space, power and connectivity you need.
-
Oso Secure is Oso Grande’s managed colocation facility. Located in downtown Albuquerque, Oso Secure sits on two power grids, backed by UPS’s and electrical generators. The facility is connected to the Internet via an OC-3 and provides multi-path connectivity to the backbone. Physical access to the facility is controlled by card-access security and Oso Secure staff (Multi-level proximity card access, video surveillance with taped back-up, locked cabinets). Further, Oso Secure employs two carrier diverse 100Mb Ethernet connections to Oso Grande’s main facility on Jefferson Blvd. Our Jefferson Blvd location also possesses an OC-3 Internet connection, but from a completely different carrier. What this means is, Oso Secure provides redundant power, redundant Internet connectivity, and superior physical security. Oso Secure offers a 100% uptime guarantee.
What is Disaster Recovery?
-
Disaster Recovery is the process of restoring an IS to operation after an interruption in service. Today’s dependence on data, connectivity and other applications requires an organization maintain or quickly resume mission-critical functions despite the effect of outside forces. Floods, earthquakes, and fires can destroy buildings and, consequently, computer rooms. An unforeseen hardware or software failure can be equally devastating. A business needs to have their backup in a completely separate physical location, ensuring data is safe and the company can recover from the disaster. When formulating your disaster recovery plan, include housing your back-up servers at the Oso Secure facility.
When shopping for a colocation facility, ask yourself these questions:
-
Does the facility have redundant systems designed to provide continuous access to the server infrastructure?
-
Does the facility have multiple Internet connections from different carriers to provide constant Internet connectivity?
-
Does the facility have adequate bandwidth and allow quick upgrade (additional bandwidth) when necessary? Is the facility physically secure?
