· How can I customize Spam Assassin?

There are 2 main ways to customize Spam Assassin.

1) Email List Management.
From the Spamfilter control panel, there is a link to email list management from which you can setup a whitelist or blacklist. Whitelist allows particular senders or domains and blacklist blocks particular senders or domains.

The easiest way to begin blocking email is from within the email itself. Open an email from your Inbox in webmail and look at the header. The last field is the Options field. There is a link you can click on to add the sender or domain to either you whitelist or blacklist.

2) Rules Management.
From the Spamfilter control panel, there is a link to rules management where you can view a list of rules with pre-assigned values. In order to be considered spam, each email is given a value according to how many rules criteria it meets, then totals up the score. If the score is more than about 5.5, then the email is considered spam. If you want particular rules to give a higher value, you can change the value here.

· How do I save my email to my local computer from webmail?

Webmail has an archive feature that allows you to save your email to your local harddrive for permanent or backup storage.
The archive function defaults to saving each email to a .eml format (you can change the default under Options) - which is most easily viewable by a standard email application like Outlook Express, Netscape, or even Microsoft Word.

Simply select the emails you would like to archive and click the Archive button in the lower right hand corner of the webmail window.

· What is the best and easiest way to block spam with spamassassin?

After some experimentation, we have decided the most effective way of using spamassassin is to reduce the default required hits level from 5.5 down to about 3.0.

5.5 eliminates maybe only 10% of your spam.
3.0 gets out more than 50% of spam, whereas 2.5 will eliminate more than 80%.

Keep in mind that when you begin to reduce the required hits level, legitimate emails might be mistaken for spam, so you will also want to set up a whitelist for those contacts that you always want to receive email from.

When you have tightened the screws on the required hits and setup a whitelist, then you are safe to set the spam folder to pemanently delete and say "goodbye" to your spam problem.

· How can I see the size of each email in my webmail box?

Click Options on the top menu. Click Index Order. Click Add to add the size paramenter.

Now you will see the size of each email with it's attachments out to the right.
